This collection contains:

• the Charter of Fundamental Rights of the EU, an extract of the General Data Protection Regulation, the Audiovisual Media Services Directive and the e-Commerce Directive, as well as a number of other EU instruments in the fi eld of media law andinternet policy;

• conventions, recommendations, declarations and resolutions of the Council of Europe relating to fundamental rights, media andinternet;

• the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, the General Comment no. 34 of the UN Human Rights Committee on freedom of opinion and expression and the UN Human Rights Council’s Resolution on the promotion, protection and enjoyment of human rights on the internet; and

• a number of book chapters and articles, on various media law related topics, such as the independence of media regulators in Europe, characteristics and developments in the case-law on freedom of expression, media and journalism under the European human rights system, the relation and confl icts between the right
to freedom of expression and the right to privacy, children’s rights and media and whistleblowing.

This collection of materials is part of the study material and documentation for the courses “European Media Law” (Master in Laws, Exchange Programme in Law, LLM in International Business Law and LLM in International and European Law, Faculty of Law and Criminology, Ghent University, Belgium) and “Media Law” (Master of Intellectual Property and ICT Law, KU Leuven, Belgium) for the academic year 2018-2019, together with the e-book “Freedom of Expression, the Media and Journalists.
